Road clean-up shows "The Cutting" is full of other people's rubbish.

One day a year a group of Good Samaritans meets and walks the road into Whananaki from Halverson Road picking up trash. This year's "cutting cleanup" happened on Saturday. Protected from harm by the flashing lights of the local fire brigade, volunteers snaked their way to the village filling bags and a trailer towed by local legend Russ Gant.
According to CLD chief Jodi Edwards, this year the roadside was better than in previous years, however the team could only get "not even 1%" of the rubbish thrown into "The Cutting", the local name for a windy piece of road leading into Te Wairahi valley on the way to Whananaki.
This wasn't just the odd TV or washing machine, it was bags filled to the brim with domestic rubbish that should've otherwise have been in a paid council bag. Jodi opened a couple up to identify one of the illegal dumpers - the trash was from town, but had no other identifying features. Lucky for them I say.
So it turns out, people seem to be coming out here to throw their rubbish away.
