Clearing the way for Capitaine Bougainville memorial

Workers were clearing the track to the Capitaine Bougainville monument yesterday in anticipation of the 50th commemoration events on Wednesday.

Volunteers Barney Bennett and Bruce Barron were seen yesterday testing out the path in All Terrain Vehicles, which will take those less able to the event from a staging point on Edge Road.

It’s hoped a day of sunshine will dry up any muddy patches, however it’s probably not best to wear your Sunday best shoes despite the fine forecast.

Organisers are asking that, if they can, people should drive to South beach and walk along the Graham’s Bay foreshore to get to the event.
